Dr Valuyeetham Kamaru Ambu is a Senior Consultant Otolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon with a special interest in Neuro-Otology.
He qualified as a doctor with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Madras in 1984.
He began serving the Malaysian Ministry of Health as a medical officer in Hospital Kluang, Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru and Hospital Ipoh before pursuing a specialist degree in Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
He qualified as a specialist in 1994 and served in Hospital Kota Bharu for six years. Subsequently, he was appointed as a consultant Otorhinolaryngologist and Head and Neck Surgeon in Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban, eventually serving as the head of department.
In 2005, Dr Valuyeetham further pursued his interest in neuro-otology as well as skull base surgery in Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand.
Upon his return to Malaysia, he resumed his work in Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban. Due to Dr Veluyeetham’s passion to help deaf children, he successfully developed and implemented the National Cochlear Implant Program and was an appointed National Otologist for the program.
Dr Valuyeetham has improved the lives of many children with hearing impairments by developing Seremban into a regional hub for cochlear implant as well as speech and audiological rehabilitation. He has also led a committee in creating policies and protocols to develop a universal screening program for hearing in newborns which is used in hospitals today.
With over 36 years in the practice of medicine and 26 years as a specialist, Dr Valuyeetham has personally trained another 36 specialists under the Otorhinolaryngology Master’s Program, and he continues to serve the community with his skills as a Consultant Otolaryngologist, Neuro-Otologist and and Head and Neck Surgeon in NSCMH Medical Centre.
