Datuk Dr S Nagappan graduated from the University of Madras (India) with the degrees MBBS and MD (Internal Medicine) and later went on to obtain the memberships from the Royal Colleges of United Kingdom and Ireland. Subsequently he was conferred the Fellowships of Royal Colleges of London, Edinburgh and Ireland. He is also a Fellow of Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, London and the Academy of Medicine, Malaysia.
He has extensive experience in all the fields of internal medicine and during his tenure in Hospital Tawau, Sabah for 30 years as the head of the department of Medicine, he played a pivotal role in establishing and running intensive care, coronary care, and haemodialysis units. He also has vast expertise in Malaria and was advisor to the Ministry of Health on Malaria until his retirement and he was also recruited as a short term consultant by WHO to conduct a workshop on” Management of Severe and Complicated Malaria” for Western Pacific Island Nations at Honiara, Solomon islands in1995.
In view of his contributions to the health services of Sabah, he was awarded the titles of ASDK (Ahli setia Darjah Kinabalu and PGDK ( Panglima setia darjah Kinabalu) by TYT, Negeri Sabah, in 1995 and 1997 respectively.
He has a passion for teaching and is an Associate Professor of Medicine in International Medical University, KL and has delivered many lectures and published papers on various subjects. His trainees are now top consultants in their fields working in various parts of the globe.
He is still very active and plays regularly tennis and golf.
Currently he is a resident consultant Physician in Negeri Sembilan Chinese Medical Center, Seremban and is truly fascinated in dealing Neurological disorders.
